CAPTURING THE OTHERWORLD

Magick from nature:
Phosphorescent stones, snail shell, hawk feather, and Redwood leaf
I've always felt that recording was the place to experiment. Why capture reality perfectly? It's very interesting to me, to create a sound or atmosphere that doesn't exist in the real world. To create a soundscape that takes someone elsewhere. Sure, that may contradict what I previously said about major studios making a perfect recording. But, I think there is big difference between a perfect-sounding recording with triggered drums, utterly compressed guitars, etc, and creating a new type of soundscape. I think many new black metal artists are able to do this wonderfully in their home studios, since nothing is holding them back from exploring new atmospheres. The fact that they are recording all the instruments at different times automatically creates a very alien sound.
